Aswathanarayana Gowda has said that the Silver Jubilee Park in Hassan will be developed at a cost of Rs. 16.50 lakh. He was addressing a gathering after inspecting stalls selling fruits at an exhibition put up by the Horticulture Department here on Sunday. As part of Republic Day celebrations, the Horticulture Department had organised a flower and fruit show. Mr. Gowda said parks were essential for the beautification of any city. Hassan would also be developed on similar lines, he said, and added that the administration would set up parks in the district. Zilla panchayat president C.N. Balakrishna said that in the Netherlands, people had taken up floriculture on a large scale and were exporting flowers. He asked the people to take up flower cultivation in addition to agriculture. He told them to utilise facilities offered by the Government, as the district had been included in the Prime Minister’s Vidharba Package. Chief executive officer of Hassan zilla panchayat F.R. Jamaadar asked the people to raise kitchen gardens. Deputy Director for Horticulture Nagaraj said different varieties of flowers brought from Udhagamandalam had been exhibited at the flower show.
