They were allowed to resume travel after protesters were dispersed HASSAN: Activists of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Praveen Shetty group) detained the Mysore-Shimoga Express and the Arsikere-Mysore passenger at the Hassan Railway Station here on Sunday. The protest, however, lasted only for 15 minutes. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rudrappa said that the trains were allowed to depart after the protesters were dispersed. Speaking to The Hindu, Arsikere Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Prabhakar said there was no “rail roko” agitation at the Arsikere Railway Station, where trains on the Bangalore-Hubli- Mumbai and the Mysore-Hubli routes passed through. No trains were stopped at Sakleshpur Railway Station either. Activists of the Akhila Karnataka Gadi Horata Samiti had announced that they would detain all trains in the State from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, in protest against the delay by the Union Government in not according classical status to Kannada and neglecting Kannadigas in railway recruitment.
