JAIPUR: The Union Urban Development Ministry has approved schemes worth Rs.51.65 crore for three towns – Jodhpur, Barmer and Balotra – in western Rajasthan under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). State Local Self Government Secretary Manjeet Singh said here that the sanction was granted at a high-level meeting in New Delhi over the week-end in the presence of representatives of the Municipal Councils of Barmer and Balotra and the Urban Improvement Trust, Jodhpur. While schemes worth Rs.65 crore were sanctioned for Jodhpur with the instructions to spend Rs.21 crore in the first phase, Rs.22.58 crore were sanctioned for Barmer and Rs.8.07 crore for Balotra. New housesMr. Singh said the money would be spent on constructing 863 new houses and upgrading 210 mud houses in Barmer district, while 208 persons would be rehabilitated in new areas. In Balotra, 196 new houses will be built for the poor and 206 old houses upgraded. As part of the schemes, basic facilities such as roads, pipelines and water supply will also be improved.
