Call to regularise workers’ service

TIRUNELVELI: The Tirunelveli District Cooperative Society Workers’ Union has urged the State Government to regularise the services of all cooperative society employees without any condition.

A resolution to this effect was passed at the first district-level conference here on Saturday.

Speakers at the meeting said that 50 per cent of the dearness allowance must be merged with basic salary, and special grade and selection grade scales fixed from the date of appointment. Pension for retired cooperative society employees should be introduced.

A minimum bonus of Rs. 10,000 should be given to the cooperative society workers and the pay anomalies of the ration shop workers weeded out without further delay.

Besides allowing the cooperative societies to mobilise fixed deposits without any conditions, the government should order the disbursal of personal loans only through cooperative societies.

Since the non-payment of salary to the cooperative society workers had badly hit their families, salary should be disbursed to them immediately.

The district president of Centre of Indian Trade Unions, R. Karumalaiyan, presided over the meeting in which the State general secretary of the union, R. Krishnamurthy, addressed.
