Arasaradi CC triumphs

Madurai: Arasaradi Cricket Club lifted the Rising Sun Trophy by winning the M.K. Alagiri’s birthday prize money Twenty20 cricket tournament at Madurai on Sunday.

Arasaradi CC beat Olympus Cricket Club by three wickets in the final and bagged a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. Olympuc CC was richer by Rs. 25,000.

The scores: Final: Olympus CC 148 in 16.3 overs lost to Arasaradi CC 152 for seven in 18.5 overs.

Third place: Kapil Devils CC 249 for seven in 20 overs (Akram Essa 100, Mohanraj four for 50) bt Majestic CC 110 in 11 overs.

Packiaraj bats well

Packiaraj’s 84 and his 127-run fourth wicket partnership with Rajan (50) helped DCW Cricket Club chalk out a 93-run victory over Pope’s Cricket Club in the TDCA-Ramesh Flower Rattan Trophy prize money Twenty20 cricket tournament at Tuticorin on Sunday.

The scores: League: Group I: ASKR CC 89 in 17.3 overs (Mari four for 11) lost to Young Waves CC 93 for seven in 18.3 overs. Group II: Seconds CC 130 for seven in 20 overs (Narasimhan 59) lost to Sealines CC 131 for nine in 19.3 overs (Navanee 45,); Power CC 160 for five in 20 overs (Uma 36, Rajasekar 40 not out) bt Spic CC 89 in 17.4 overs (Uma four for 19). Group III: TRC 126 for eight in 20 overs bt Gavaskar CC 78 in 18.3 overs (Prabakar 38 not out, Siva four for two). Group IV: DCW CC 222 for six in 20 overs (Packiaraj 84, Rajan 50) bt Pope’s CC 129 for seven in 20 overs.

Sathik shines

Sathik’s unbeaten 75, Seeni Bala Cricket Club, Vedasandur beat Eleven Stars Cricket Club by eight wickets in the Canara Bank-DDCA second division league at Dindigul on Sunday.

The scores: Second division: Eleven Stars CC 108 in 21 overs (Gokulakrishnan 65) lost to Seeni Bala CC 109 for two in 14.1 overs (Sathik 75 not out). Third division: Yuvaraj CC, Palani 238 for eight in 25 overs (M. Senthil Velan 71) bt Hari Varna CC 126 in 17.1 overs (Saravanan 54, R. Alex four for 15, T. Thangapandi four for seven); Infant Jesus CC, Vedasandur 96 for seven in 20 overs (Muthukumar four for four) lost to Warriors CC, Nilakottai 97 for four in 14 overs; Mansur CC 150 for five in 23 overs (Muthu 53) bt Godsons group CC 134 in 22.5 overs (Sekar 43).

Pandiselavm scalps five

Pandiselvam’s five for 25 helped Melbourne Cricket Club carve out a one-wicket victory over Lightning Cricket Club in the TDCA first division league at Tirunelveli on Sunday.

The scores: First division: Melbourne CC 183 in 36.2 overs (Stephen 44) bt Lightning CC 184 for nine in 31.4 overs (Arumugam 35, Pandiselvam five for 35). Second division: Apex CC 128 for nine in 20 overs (Vasanth 36, Jaffer Ali four for 25) lost to Indian CC 131 for three in 12.5 overs (Jaffer Ali 57); King Dharma CC 127 for nine in 20 overs (Baskaran 45) lost to Wings CC 129 for six in 19.5 overs (Alagesan 50 not out).

Semifinalists spotted

Franklin, John Isaac, Raja and Babu entered the men’s singles semifinals of the JCI Madurai Central and Divya Carrom Club District-level Pongal carrom tournament at Madurai on Sunday.

The results:

John Isaac bt Thangam 16-25, 25-10, 25-5; Franklin bt Kumar 25-9, 25-11; Raja bt Mahesh 25-18, 25-20; Babu bt Mani 22-25, 25-0, 25-13.
