MEG runners excel

Mangalore: Inept marshalling — forcing the lead runners in the main event, the 12km run for men, to run an extra kilometre — marred the proceedings in the 41st State cross country championship here on Sunday morning.

MEG’s Sunil Fatan and Ranjith Kumar, who hit the front after the 3km mark, at the Ladyhill junction were misdirected through lack of lead pilots. The duo took a ‘u’ turn and bounced back into fray but by then South Western Railway’s Shantha Kumar and Alva’s Shankar had moved ahead to the finish.

However, intervention by the Officials and the threat of disqualifying Shantha Kumar (for running bare-foot) gave both Sunil Fatan and Ranjit Kumar the first and second positions.
