BHUBANESWAR: A person, who was allegedly trying to buy ornament through fake currency, was caught by police in western Orissa town of Sambalpur on Sunday. Police seized 209 currency notes of denomination of Rs.500 from one Jagadish Prasad Agarwal and took him into custody. Accomplice abscondsSubsequently, a raid was conducted on his house at Rourkela and house of one of Agarwal’s friends was also cordoned off in the industrial town to detect the racket. However, his accomplice managed to abscond. Agarwal was putting up in a lodge near Golbazar area of Sambalpur area after attending a marriage ceremony at Bhubaneswar on Saturday. He came to a jewellery shop to purchase ornaments using the fake currency. Suspecting his activities, the jewellery shop owner reportedly informed the police which in turn nabbed him. Agarwal admitted that he had come to town for the second time with fake currency notes, police sources said adding that earlier he had successfully exchanged Rs. 30,000 of fake notes. “This time, he had bought these fake notes with face values of Rs. 104500 through original Rs. 60,000 from near Ranchi,” a police official revealed. Police seized three debit cards and two cell phone sets from him. Within a year, this was the fifth instance, when fake currency notes were detected in Sambalpur district.
