“Schools flouting norms by charging donations”

Delhi Government not bothered: Harsh Vardhan

NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan has charged that the Delhi Government has failed in getting children admitted to schools without donations.

Dr. Vardhan said hundreds of guardians were complaining that private school managements were indulging in arbitrary behaviour in the case of admission of children to their schools and disregarding the guidelines of the Government and the Court by selecting children according to the standards fixed by them, while the Delhi Government has not bothered to look into the issue.

He said the schools were charging hefty donations for providing admissions and were giving admission through the back door to children on the basis of donation. This conduct, he said, had deprived thousands of people, who cannot afford to bribe the school managements, an opportunity to get their wards admitted.

The BJP leader said the guidelines framed by the Government and the Court for admission of poor children were also not being implemented by many schools. “The schools are demanding many types of certificates from the guardians for harassing them and are also posing unnecessary questions to them,” he added.

Holding the Delhi Government’s Education Department responsible for not ensuring impartial admission of children, he said despite several assurances and promises by Education Minister Arvinder Singh, the guardians were not able to comprehend before submitting the application forms whether their children would be admitted or not.

“Many schools have framed different standards for admission in place of a uniform process and in the garb of it, donations are being demanded from the guardians,”’ he said.

The Delhi BJP president said while the admission process has been made online, the guidelines were not being followed and information on the number of seats and admission lists was not being provided to guardians.
