Dearth of good talent on Telugu television out of the box

Jhansi

Dominated by soaps that are stretched beyond need and means, Telugu television has very little to offer in terms of educational value or for that matter some clean humour.

Though there is no dearth of fictional tales narrated leaving viewers with tears in their eyes, there is not much done to tickle the ribs and evoke good humour that can be viewed by all age groups.

Though the primary source of inspiration for Telugu telly, the national channels, keep coming up with several rib-ticklers, the same apparently fails in influencing the local channels in return.

Out of place

Not only comedy-based serials, the Hindi channels have made genuine efforts in the form of live shows and they have been very successful in not only creating ripples but also endearing themselves with the viewers. Here, on Telugu channels, the perception of a good humour show is just to pluck some comedy scenes from the movies and string them as a show with anchors in between totally appearing out of place.

Long walk

In a few instances, one feels that the producer must have been out on a long walk while the script was being readied for there is little or no effort to add that tinge of humour to presentation.

Harikishan did create some genuine fun with his show ‘Navvithe Navaratnalu’ on ETV some time back and if you are looking for some real good fare ‘Ata-Pata’ of Vissa throws up real funny and enjoyable talk. Jhansi did excel with her show ‘Talk of The Town’ and then there was a lull.

Not that there is dearth of good talent who can ensure riotous comedy or come up with subtle humour, but they feel the channels too obsessed with tear-jerkers.

But then, the channels do not agree and a channel even head goes to the extent of claiming that he had not come across a single proposal for a good comedy programme.

Will someone pick up the gauntlet and give Telugu viewers some fun-filled entertainment.
