Discourse on Tyagaraja

On the eve of Sadguru Tyagaraja Aaradhanotsavams, city-based cultural organisation ‘Swara Jhari’ recently arranged a discourse on the ‘kritis’ of the saint composer. Noted Vedic scholar Samavedam Shanmukha Sarma delivered a lecture at Siva Ramakrishna Kshetram. During the two-hour lecture, he explained various aspects of keertanas to the audience. Over 400 listened to it with rapt attention. Though the city boasts of over 50 artistes - both vocal and instrumental - only half-a-dozen of them attended the programme. In fact, the discourse is more beneficial to the artistes than laymen, as the former can improve their ability and skill by participating in such programmes.

Delay in issue of bus pass

Inordinate delay is occurring in the issue of bus pass at the Auto Nagar depot of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. Though hundreds of people are getting their monthly bus pass renewed every month, there is only one counter to issue the passes. This is results in long queues at the counter and people are forced to wait long periods for their turn. The other day, I had the experience of waiting for half-an-hour in the queue to get my turn. I request the officials to take necessary steps to open another counter, so that they can save the time of their commuters.

Tiranga Run on DD

We are happy to know that Doordarshan is making arrangements to telecast the ‘Tiranga Run’ live from different parts of the city on February 3. This will help people watch the prestigious run by sitting in their homes. As per the available technology, those who have cable connections are able to access Doordarshan channel, while the others, who are accessing the channel with the help of an antenna, are unable to get quality picture and sound. As per our understanding, hills obstruct the signals and there is a need to install more number of transponders atop the hills. The officials concerned are requested to make necessary arrangements for proper relay of the event.

Set up High Court benches

The Andhra Pradesh High Court is located in Hyderabad, which is far away for people residing in corner districts like Srikakulam and Chittoor. It is very difficult for complainants to go all the way to Hyderabad every now and then is tedious task. Hence, I request the State Government to consider the option of setting up High Court benches in all district headquarters.

If there is any problem to do so, at least one bench each in all the three regions is the need of the hour. This arrangement helps the people a lot and saves their time and money. I request the Government and authorities concerned to look into this issue.
