Keith Pullin, adjudicator, Guinness World Records, confirms record MANGALORE: It is official. The world record for the longest singing marathon by multiple singers has fallen. The record which stood in the name of Communidade Evangelica Luterana Sao Paulo, Ulbra, Brazil, since 2005 has now gone to Mandd Sobhann. While the Brazilian group achieved the feat with 36-hours of singing, the Mandd Sobhann group extended it by four hours with a 40-hour effort. As the last song sung by the group ended at 46 seconds past 10 p.m. on Sunday, a wave of excitement went up at Kalaangann at Shaktinagar here. It marked the culmination of 40 hours of singing for the world’s longest singing marathon by multiple singers. Titled “Konkani Nirantari”, the record attempt began at 6 a.m. on Saturday. It ended 40 hours later. Keith Pullin, adjudicator, Guinness World Records, who appreciated Mandd Sobhann’s effort, said: “The record set by the Brazilian group is no longer the World Record.” In all, 43 groups, singing one after the other with 1,711 singers, sang 645 songs in their world record effort. Mandd Sobhann went past the Brazilian group’s record at 6 p.m. on Sunday when the 39th group from Jeri Meri Mumbai gave its performance. It was Eric Ozario, Gurkaar of Mandd Sobhann, who was leading his own Mandd Sobhann team, the last and 43rd batch on the final stretch of the record attempt. Mr. Pullin, in a brief interaction with The Hindu, said the event was well organised.
