Musicians pay homage to Thyagaraja

Thousands of devotees join the rendition

THANJAVUR: Hundreds of musicians paid homage to Sri Thyagaraja at the 161st aradhana at Tiruvaiyaru on Sunday, the Bagula Panchami when the saint composer attained Samadhi.

Sitting in front of his Samadhi on the banks of the Cauvery, they rendered the Pancharathna Kritis of Thyagaraja. Thousands of devotees also joined the musicians.

Those who took part included Sudha Raghunathan, Mahati, Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan, Haridwaramangalam A.K. Palanivel, T.N.Seshagopalan and Flute Ramani. G. Rangaswamy Moopanar, president of the Thyagabarahma Mahotsava Sabha, which organises the aradhana, was also present.

Earlier, an “unchavruthi” bhajan was taken out from the home of the saint on Thirumanjana Veedhi to the Samadhi.

Aarthi was performed to the idol of Thyagaraja at the end of the rendition. K.J. Jesudoss paid homage in the evening.

The aradhana started on January 23.
