Puducherry
It will facilitate administration, says executive meet PUDUCHERRY: The executive committee of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) which concluded here on Saturday urged the Centre to evolve a national policy on bifurcating bigger States for administrative purposes. Through a resolution, the PMK executive said the demand for bifurcation had been supported by various political parties. Recalling bifurcation of States including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, it said the demand for formation of a separate Telengana had gained strength in Andhra Pradesh. The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh had suggested bifurcation of the State into three and the demand for creation of Vidarbha State had been raised in Maharashtra, the resolution pointed out. It accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government of foisting cases on party activists in districts, including in Ariyalur and Perambalur, giving an impression that the attempt made during the previous rule to tarnish the image of the party had started rearing its head again. Against the backdrop of completion of the delimitation process, the Tamil Nadu Government should come forward to convert the Lok Sabha constituencies into districts as people had been demanding formation of smaller districts for administrative purposes. It called upon the Tamil Nadu government to take steps to ask the National Thermal Power Corporation to set up a thermal power station in the State. Another resolutionThrough another resolution, the PMK executive urged the Government of India not to support the attempts of the Sri Lankan government to find a militaristic solution to the ethnic problem in the island. Negotiated settlementIndia should bring pressure on the island government to strive for a negotiated settlement to the issue, it said. It also appealed to the Centre to take steps to ensure that the Tamils in Malaysia lived there with equal rights and opportunities as other citizens of that country.
