THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shaji Sam, a research scholar at the University of Kerala, has bagged the award for the best research paper presented at the International Conference on Solar cells held recently at the CUSAT. The paper dealt with the use of holograms in concentrating the sun’s rays. The paper presented a new holographic method to achieve about 48 per cent efficiency of conversion, a press note issued here said. One square meter, on a sunny day, receives about one kilowatt of energy and by using the technology mentioned in the paper it would be possible to collect and convert solar radiation into electricity. The research work is a joint effort of Mr. Sam and Vadivelan under the guidance of P.T. Ajithkumar, deputy director (on leave), from the C-DIT.
