THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The platform one of Thiruvananthapuram Central Station has been given a facelift by the divisional railway authorities by giving an aluminium composite panel to the roof at a cost of Rs.25.5 lakh. A stretch of 120 metres of the platform has been covered under the work. The pillars supporting the roof have also been covered with aluminium composite panel to give a fresh look. According to railway officials, aluminium composite panel is heat resistant and will offer succour to commuters waiting on the platform. The railways have plans to introduce the panel in the other platforms of the station. Over the years, the railways have introduced a host of facilities in the station as part of enhancing passenger amenities. Modern passenger information system and LED-based arrival/departure display boards have already been introduced. Dormitory for womenThe work for commissioning an AC dormitory exclusively for women is in full swing. The railways have plan to introduce the AC dormitory for women in other railway station also, Divisional Railway Manager Titus P. Koshy said. The Central station is one in the five stations selected under the ‘Touch and Feel’ programme of the Union Railway Minister to make the railways more aesthetic, comfortable and passenger friendly with good quality lighting, water supply and cleanliness.
