Foundation adds fifth ambulance to its fleet

Special Correspondent

‘500 people have benefited from the service’

Foundation urged to provide free education

MANDHEWAL (GULBARGA DISTRICT): The Dharam Singh Foundation on Sunday added one more ambulance to its fleet of four in Gulbarga and Jewargi.

The foundation, which has been extending health care facilities to the people of the district, particularly Jewargi taluk, represented by the former Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh, started free ambulance service in August with four ambulances — two in Gulbarga and one each in Jewargi and Yedrami.

According to the chairman of the foundation, Ajay Singh, youngest son of Mr. Dharam Singh, the free ambulance service which functioned round-the-clock, had helped a large number of people of the region.

According to the records maintained by the foundation, 500 people had benefited from the service.

At a function to launch the free ambulance service of the foundation at Mandhewal, Dr. Singh said at least 90 accident victims, 117 emergency delivery cases, 37 people who had suffered heart attacks and 150 other patients had utilised the free ambulance service provided by the foundation in Jewargi taluk.

“The political adversaries of my father (Mr. Dharam Singh) are trying to down play the importance of the free ambulance service in Jewargi taluk by spreading canards about the service offered by the foundation,” Dr. Singh said.

Inspector General of Police (North Eastern Range) M.V. Murthy, who inaugurated the ambulance service and the office of the foundation in Mandewal, lauded the foundation’s work in rural areas.

“Even today, villages are devoid of basic health care facilities and ambulance service is still a far cry for the people living in villages,” he said.

Mr. Murthy also urged the foundation to extend education free of cost or at nominal rates to the poor.

The Chairman of the Haj Committee, Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi, MP, presided over the function.

Poojya Shivananda Mahaswami of Dasoha Math at Sonna, Poojya Mahanta Swami of Virakta Math, Jeratigi, and Poojay Amruth Linga Shivacharya of Mallikarjuna Math spoke.
