“State government extending all benefits to police”

Staff Reporter

Newly-constructed police quarters declared open

TIRUPATTUR: Continued support from the Tamil Nadu government to the police department has motivated officials, who are making efforts for effective policing, K. Radhakrishnan, IG (North), said here on Monday.

Declaring open the newly constructed police quarters, built at a cost of Rs.2.50 crore, at Tirupattur in Vellore District, the IG said the State Government was now extending all benefits to the department. A spacious play ground inside the police quarters was also planned.

Earlier, on January 24, the IG addressed residents of Pulur, bordering Andhra Pradesh near Vaniyambadi. During the course of the interaction, he distributed welfare schemes to a tune of Rs.7.50 lakh.

Addressing the gathering, he said the police should always maintain a cordial relationship with the public. Similarly, the public, particularly those residing in border areas, should come forward to give information on suspects. They could be mutually beneficial, he said. For instance, the police recently arrested five naxalites at Theni District.

This had been possible because of the timely information the department got from the local residents.

Mr. Radhakrishnan said a total of 125 Village Vigilance Committee had been formed in Vellore District, with 30 to 50 members in each committee. Senior police officers in the district had been constantly interacting with the committee members. Such community outreach programmes helped to create a mutual trust between the police and the public.

Vellore District Superintendent of Police N. Arivuselvam, Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police (Prohibition) L. Ramadoss, Vaniyambadi Sub Division Deputy Superintendent of Police Suresh Kumar and Tirupattur Sub Division Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoharan were present.
