Fete draws dedicated crowd

Film buffs call upon organisers to reach out to colleges


The event organised by Rasmi Film Society will screen more than three dozen much-talked of films


MALAPPURAM: The ongoing International Film Festival, organised by the Rasmi Film Society, which started here on Friday has invited a modest but dedicated crowd from different parts of the district and beyond.

They made a pilgrimage to Malappuram to watch some of the much-talked of films in recent times.

More than three dozen films are being screened at Naveen Theatre, the main venue of the festival.

Good turnout

A few Malayalam films, including Unni and Photographer, were screened for the public at Arangu Open Air Theatre, Kottakkunnu. The screening of Photographer on Monday evening evoked a good turnout.

The young cinema lovers who took part in an open forum held on the courtyard of Naveen Theatre on Monday afternoon demanded that the Rasmi Film Society reach out to college campuses with good films. Rasmi office-bearers said they had already been visiting campuses with films.

Young crowd

The young men and women who watched the movies and took part in the discussions included students and technicians who took off from their routine work. Films such as The Wind that Shakes the Barley by Ken Loach, At 5 inthe Afternoon by Sameera Makhmalbaf, Drishtantham by M.P. Sukumaran Nair, Silence by Mohsin Makhmalbaf, and Talk to Her by Pedro Almodovar were screened on Monday.

The screening of Francisco Vargoz’s celebrated film The Violin will take place at 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday. Treseta by Drazer Zarkovic will be screened at 9.15 a.m., Thakarachenda by Avira Rebecca at 11.30 a.m., Thaniye by Babu Thiruvalla at 2 p.m., What I Know About Lola by Jasler Rebollo at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Open forum

Filmmakers Babu Thiruvalla and Avira Rebecca and film critic M.C. Rajanarayanan will lead an open forum on ‘The viewers and new films’ on Tuesday afternoon.
