Voicing Protest: Indian Union Muslim League State general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty inaugurating a collectorate march organised by the United Democratic Front in Malappuram on Monday. MALAPPURAM: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty has demanded a high-level inquiry into the recent seizure of spirit from a lorry carrying cement from the public sector unit, Malabar Cements. Inaugurating a march taken out by the United Democratic Front (UDF) in protest against the unbridled price rise in front of the Collectorate here on Monday, Mr. Kunhalikutty said the lorry contract belonged to the husband of Anweshi chief K. Ajita. He said the involvement of Ms. Ajita’s husband and others should be investigated. He said the Valayar check-post, which Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac recently announced as a corruption-free one, was a green channel for illegal spirit transportation. Mr. Kunhalikutty said the LDF government was the worst government the State had ever seen ever seen. “The government has been selling the land belonging to public sector units in pieces and many are enjoying kickbacks,” he said. He said a meeting of the UDF to be held on Tuesday would chalk out a plan of action against the LDF government. Malappuram Municipal vice-chairman Veekshanam Mohammed and former MLA K.N.A. Khader spoke.
