HAMPI: Preparations are on here for the proposed visit of President Pratibha Patil. Three make-shift helipads are being constructed at Hotel Mayura Bhuvaneshwari at Kamalapur and roads in the vicinity of the hotel are being freshly asphalted. Gravel is being spread on the road leading to the Vijaya Vittala temple complex housing the world-famous stone chariot and the musical pillars.

The President was earlier scheduled to visit Hampi on February 1. Now she is likely to come on February 3. “The date on which the President will be visiting Hampi has not yet been confirmed,” P.P. Prabhu, one of the advisers to the Governor, told presspersons here on Monday.

Mr. Prabhu, along with another adviser, P.H. Tharakan, was here to oversee the preparations for her visit. “We have come here to inspect preparations, take note of the distance between various monuments and find out what other arrangements need to be made for her visit. We want to be prepared for Ms. Patil’s visit,” he said.

Mr. Prabhu and Mr. Tharakan, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Arvind Srivastav, Additional Director-General of Police (Intelligence) Srinivas, Inspector-General of Police (Eastern Range) H.N. Satyanarayan Rao, Superintendent of Police Amrit Paul and Superintending Archaeologist Halakatti, inspected several monuments, including the Virupaksha temple, Mahanavami Dibba, Lotus Mahal, the elephant stables and the Vijaya and Vittala temples. They also inspected the incomplete bridge across the Tungabhadra linking Anegundi with Hampi. Later, the two advisers held a meeting with the officials on the security arrangements to be made and chalked out a detailed programme for her visit.
