Thiruvananthapuram: The Vigilance court here sentenced former Superintending Engineer of the Kallada Irrigation Project (KIP) K.K. Philip to four years of rigorous imprisonment after it found him guilty of defrauding the government by awarding undue pecuniary benefits to a project contractor. Inquiry Commissioner and Special Judge K. Sasidharan Nair also slapped a fine of Rs.4 lakh on Philip. The court sent him to the Central Prison here. Philip was in charge of the right bank circle of the KIP during the 1990-1991 period. The prosecution case against him was that he had entered into a conspiracy with contractor K.N. Satyapalan, a former vice-president of the Sree Narayana Dharmaparipalana Yogam, for awarding the businessman undue pecuniary benefit. .
