Major panchayats, municipalities pay Rs. 26 lakh and Rs. 48 lakh respectively Fake ITI certificates detected during junior linemen recruitment Sangareddy: With the minor panchayats in the district clearing their long-standing power bill arrears of Rs. 3.4 crore in a single go, the mood in Medak Transco is upbeat. The power transmission corporation had launched a drive to clear outstanding bills from the Government departments. While major panchayats and municipalities paid Rs. 26 lakh and Rs. 48 lakh respectively towards their arrears, the unpaid bills up to January 25 from Government and industrial sectors alone stood at Rs. 2.4 crore. Similarly, the farmers who own free agricultural connections but have not been paying the service charge of Rs. 20 also chipped in by paying Rs 1.9 crore in the December against an outstanding amount of Rs. 13 crore. Speaking to The Hindu here on Monday Superintendent Engineer of Medak Transco Y. Narender Reddy informed that the drive to educate the rural consumers started yielding good results with the cooperation of the people’s representatives even though there was initial resistance to Transco’s measures. However, the industrial sector in the district has been a perfect payer, Narender Reddy said. AppointmentsOn the other hand, efforts to recruit 260 junior linemen in the district hit a road block with some of the aspirants submitting fake certificates of qualification. The office of Director of Apprenticeship in Hyderabad has identified 30 ITI certificates as fake out of the 261 appointed as JLMs. As a result, the SE office here has sought permission from the headquarters to allow appointment of the candidates in the waiting list after thorough verification of their credentials. Demand to increaseEven though the present demand and supply situation in the district is satisfactory, the demand could increase in the months of February and March due to a spurt in agricultural activity. The present consumption of 13 million units per day is well within the limits, Narender Reddy said. He opined that the Transco would have to continue with the rationing system with the commencement of summer.
