BANGALORE: The Bharatiya Janata Party national executive meeting held in Delhi on Sunday is learnt to have decided to depute party National General Secretary and former Union Minister Arun Jaitley to Karnataka as central leader in-charge of elections for Karnataka to monitor the party’s poll preparations. Sources in the party said Mr. Jaitley would work along with party national Vice-President Yashwant Sinha who is organisational in-charge of party State unit. Mr. Jaitley has already worked as in-charge of the State unit during the previous Assembly polls in which the BJP secured 79 seats to emerge as the single largest party in the State. There was a demand from the party State unit leaders to depute Mr. Jaitley to Karnataka to monitor the party’s poll preparations. The executive meeting is learnt to have decided to focus the entire attention on Karnataka, which is the next State to go to polls after Gujarat. Sources said the party leaders also wanted the Gujarat model to be replicated in Karnataka. A party functionary said the adopting of the Gujarat model might mean not only focussing on development, but also giving tickets to new faces. A huge team, comprising nearly 300 members from Karnataka is attending the BJP national council meeting being held in Delhi on Monday and Tuesday.
