Kodiyeri: Central University for north Malabar

Staff Reporter

MALAPPURAM: The proposed Central University will be set up in north Malabar, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said.

Inaugurating the centenary celebrations of MSP Higher Secondary School here on Monday evening, the Minister said the demand for an IIT in the State would be strengthened.

He said efforts were being made to enhance the educational standards of the children of the State’s police personnel.

A Central School was already sanctioned in Thiruvananthapuram and another one was being sought at Thrissur, said the Minister.

Mr. Balakrishnan said though Kerala had achieved total literacy a few years ago, the standard of higher education in the State was still poor.

The State needed to do better in higher education, he said.

He warned that education should not be turned into a commodity where the poor have no role to play.

Minister for Local Self-Government Paloli Mohammed Kutty laid the foundation for the centenary building. M. Ummer, MLA, presided over the function.

T.K. Hamza, MP, laid the foundation for a new playground for the school. A.P. Anil Kumar, MLA, released ‘MSP Express,’ a journal brought out by the students of the school. Manjalamkuzhi Ali, MLA, inaugurated the launch of the pre-primary course.
