CHENNAI: Sundaram Business Services (SBS), the BPO (business process outsourcing) arm of Sundaram Finance, has announced its first expansion into a Tier-II city with the setting up of a BPO facility in Madurai. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, P. S. Raghavan, Executive Director, SBS, said the company was planning to set up a 12,000-sq. ft. BPO delivery facility in Madurai city and would become operational by the middle of next month. As part of this expansion, SBS planned to hire over 500 employees in the next 12 months. He said the company was also planning to set up a similar centre in Tiruchi. Both these centres would work up to Rs. 10 crore, including infrastructure, manpower and other facilities. Mr. Raghavan said the company would initially provide policy administration services for one of its leading life insurance customers from the Madurai facility. T. T. Srinivasaraghavan, Managing Director, Sundaram Finance, said SBS at present had BPO facilities in Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi. In July 2007, it picked up a majority stake in Chennai-based BPO, Professional Management Consultancy (PMC), that doubled its headcount to over 1,600. He said with the current expansion into Madurai, Sundaram Business would take its headcount to over 2,500 employees this year. He said SBS had a strong presence in the domestic BPO market in the BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance) and manufacturing space. It also had a strong presence in the Australian outsourcing market.
