India loses in final

Kuala Lumpur: After a splendid run in the league phase, India succumbed to Australia 2-3 in the final of the eight-nation (under-21) hockey tournament on Sunday.

After Diwakar Ram had given the lead, two goals by Aaron Klienschmidt put the Aussies ahead. India levelled through Mandeep Antil before Mathew Buttunni netted the winner four minutes before close.

Earlier, Germany gained the third place beating Holland 3-1.

Final positions: 1.Australia, 2.India, 3.Germany, 4.Holland, 5 Pakistan, 6. New Zealand, 7.Malaysia 8. South Korea.
