Sebastian shines

KOCHI: Ranji star Sebastian Antony’s fine all-round performance (five for 35 and 67) went in vain as Swantons CC lost to Century CC by 12 runs in a first phase quarterfinal of the 21st BPCL Kochi Refinery all-India cricket tournament at the Tripunithura Palace Oval on Monday.

In other quarterfinals, Globstar Telecom, thriving on spinner V.S. Shiju’s four-wicket haul, defeated Cordiant Tripunithura CC while Ernakulam’s Cordiant Sports Foundation, which was well served by left-arm spinner C.P. Shahid (five for 19), beat Jolly Rovers, Perinthalmanna.

At the Ambalamugal BPCL Ground, Thrissur’s Oktopals CC pipped Cycle Brand Kids CC (Thiruvananthapuram) by two runs to squeak into the semifinals.

The scores (first phase quarterfinals):

At Palace Oval, Tripunithura: Century CC, Ernakulam 187 for seven in 30 overs (Vishnu 40, Sebastian Antony five for 35) bt Swantons CC, Ernakulam 175 in 29.5 overs (Sebastian Antony 67, Rakesh four for 51, Jayaraj three for 41).

Globstar Telecom, Aluva 133 in 25.4 overs bt Cordiant Tripunithura CC 82 in 21 overs (V.S. Shiju four for 11).

At BPCL Ground, Ambalamugal: Cordiant Sports Foundation, Ernakulam 197 for nine in 30 overs (Madan Mohan 43, Asgar three for 39) bt Jolly Rovers, Perinthalmanna 116 in 19.2 overs (Shahid five for 19, Fahad four for 10).

Oktopals, Thrissur 122 in 27.2 overs (Sajan four for 45, Syresh three for 24) bt Cycle Brand Kids, Thiruvananthapuram 120 in 29.5 overs (Kannan three for 25).

Sunday’s matches: Oktopals, Thrissur 222 for two in 30 overs (Abhijith Menon 104, Midhun 63) bt President’s XI, Kottayam 136 in 24 overs (Renjith five for 23).

Young Kids Academy, Thiruvalla 73 in 22.4 overs (Navaneeth three for 19) lost to Jolly Rovers, Perinthalmanna 74 for no loss in 9.1 overs.
