It was reported in The Hindu dated December 12, 2007 that 25 per cent extra talk value will be allowed (i.e. Rs.1,125 for Rs.1,000) to those who recharge between December 24 to January 22, 2008. Accordingly, I recharged for Rs.1,000 on December 27, 2007 by paying Rs.1124 and to my great disappointment, I was allowed Rs.900 only. I contacted the service centre in Tiruchi and they were not able to give any satisfactory reply except that the benefit of 25 per cent more talk value will be available only from December 30. Unnecessarily, I have lost Rs.225 for no fault of mine. Will BSNL allow Rs.225 extra talk value in cases such as mine? P.S. Sethuraman, Srirangam Ensure power supplyFebruary 1 is a ‘Muhurtham’ day. Lot of marriages are scheduled on that day. Srirangam has a lot of marriage halls plus a number of temples where marriages will take place on that day. I hereby appeal to Electricity Board authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply on February 1 at least from 3 a.m. to 2 p.m. I hope the authorities will do the needful. R. Baskaran, Bikshandarkoil SpeedingIndiscriminate speeding by vehicles on the Subramaniapuram-Seshadripuram stretch in Srirangam makes it highly unsafe for residents. The area is dotted with residential apartments and some schools are situated in the vicinity and, hence, elderly persons and children are put to risk due to the menace. I request the law enforcers to take stringent action against those who are found driving at breakneck speed in a residential area. Further, I would request the corporation authorities to erect speed-breakers at vantage points to curb speeding. A. Shiv Shankar, Srirangam Poor BSNL networkThe signal coverage for BSNL SIM cards is getting worse day by day in and around Kurinji Nagar adjoining KK Nagar. While there is hardly any coverage inside houses, the connection becomes intermittent even from open spaces and terraces. This results in waste of money and causes lot of hardship and irritation. Will the BSNL authorities look into this and do the needful? H. Karamath Ali, K.K. Nagar Signal problemsI would like to bring to your attention that the installation of a signal post near IG office at TVS Tollgate sometimes causes problems for people. People going towards the airport and Anna Stadium on Chennai-Tiruchi bypass road have to wait for green light since there is no free left. When people try to pass the signal post in the last 5 or 3 or 2 seconds towards the stadium have to meet the people coming from the airport as they are given green signal before people from the other side pass the signal. It causes many problems in peak hours. People from airport may be given green after a while. The authorities concerned must do the needful. A.G. Nihal Basha, Sangliyandapuram Health hazardUnlike in other places, most of the hotels in Tiruchi use plantain leaves to serve foods. Some hoteliers dump the used leaves in open public places during late night. The leaves so thrown are dragged throughout the road by dogs, cows and birds. It makes the entire place dirty. It not only spoils the atmosphere but also it is also a health hazard for the passers by. Alternatively, the hoteliers can engage cattle owners to collect the plantain leaves, which is good fodder. By doing so, the roads will be free from hotel waste and cattle menace on roads. Health department can also review the waste disposal of hotels. M. Gopalakrishnan, Thillai Nagar AnnouncementTiruchi Junction is one of the important junctions in Southern Railway. Most of the south-bound trains pass through the junction only in the early hours. At Fort Station in Tiruchi, announcements are made welcoming passengers whenever a train arrives at the station in the early hours. Most of the passengers are alerted and get down at Tiruchi junction. The same procedure may be followed at Srirangam station where most of the south-bound trains arrive in the early hours. R.S. Surya Prakash, Kottapattu Vestibule busesThe introduction of new vestibule buses in the city is welcome move as it will help overcome the increasing number of commuters. At present, the facility is available only in a few parts of the city. I wish that this facility may be extended to ordnance factory area to accommodate the increasing crowd in the ordnance factory buses. Will the authorities concerned do the needful and look into this and introduce vestibule buses to this area also? G. Rajesh Gopal, OFT Estate
