31 persons benefited under job programme

PUDUKOTTAI: As many as 31 persons in the district have benefited under the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) being implemented by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission during the last three years.
Stating this while speaking at the ‘district-level awareness camp on REGP’ held here recently, Divisional Director of the Commission, Madurai S. R. Nayak said that as per the norms of the REGP, each borrower should generate maximum employment opportunities to villagers to improve the economic uplift of the weaker sections. All these 31 beneficiaries had generated employment opportunity for 374 persons in the past three years. During the current financial year, it had been planned to generate employment opportunities for 400 rural people through a loan of Rs.72 lakh and a subsidy of Rs.17.75 lakh.
