VHP leader on tour amid tight security

Staff Reporter

BERHAMPUR: Tour of VHP leader Laxmananda Saraswati to communal violence-hit areas of Kandhamal district has become a problem for the administration.

Mr. Laxmananda was allegedly attacked by some miscreants at Dasingbadi while he was heading towards Brahmanigaon following the clash. After that VHP activists had resorted to a large-scale violence in different parts of the district.

On Sunday, Laxmananda started off on a visit to the communal violence-hit areas from his ashram at Chakapada despite opposition by the administrative officials. He visited the Brahmanigaon along with his supporters. Having no other way out Baliguda Sub-Collector V. Krishna and armed police force had to accompany the VHP leader. On Monday, he again made tours to some communal violence-hit areas amidst tight police security. CPI(M) State secretariat member Ali Patnaik criticised the government for allowing the communal leader to move around volatile areas of the district amidst police security.
