HC directs college to admit students

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Monday directed the T.M.A. Pai College of Education, Udupi, to admit 17 students, who were sent by the Centralised Admission Cell of the Government of Karnataka, to B.Ed., course this year.

The cell had petitioned the court that it had on July 28, 2007 called for admission to various B.Ed., colleges in the State.

On August 26, the entrance test was conducted. In December, 50 students were allotted to T.M. A. Pai College of Education in Udupi. But the college denied admission to 17 of them through an endorsement that “no more Government quota students will be admitted to B.Ed. course”.

The cell said that there were 100 seats in the college. The institution and the Government had agreed to share the 100 seats available in the college at 50 each.

“The college had flouted the agreement by admitting 75 students,” the cell said.

Justice Ashok Hinchigeri, in his interim order, directed the college to admit students.
