Free insurance cover to be provided to BSNL landline subscribers Broadband connections in Karnataka circle cross two lakh BANGALORE: Users of BSNL mobiles phones in the State will have access to television programmes, tracking systems and homing devices. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) on Monday launched three value-added services, which include multi-television channels, Resource Tracking and Management System (RTMS) and Premium Ring Back Tone (PRBT). All these facilities need handsets equipped with GPRS. Addressing a press conference, Chief General Manager of the Karnataka circle of BSNL T.S. Kuppuswamy said these value-added services were available on the BSNL mobile service. He said the RTMS was designed for corporate customers to manage and track their resources over the Internet. It would prove useful for transport, logistics and corporate workforce management. A control centre with Internet connectivity would be able to locate vehicles at any point of time. Somebody in the vehicle should have a BSNL mobile phone with them. At present the service is available for the BSNL customers in the south zone: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Mr. Kuppuswamy said the mobile TV service could be accessed by post-paid and prepaid subscribers who have GPRS-enabled phones. The facility provides a mix of news and entertainment from 15 channels such as NDTV, Aaj Tak, Cartoon Network, CNN-Mobile, Jaya TV, TV9, Zoom and Times Now. More channels are likely to be added soon, he said. Giving details of tariffs for the television service, Mr. Kuppuswamy said it would cost Rs. 10 a day for 24-hour access to a single channel, Rs. 50 a month for each channel for a 30-day period and Rs. 150 a month for watching all channels. Customers of BSNL mobile service can avail themselves of this service by sending ‘MYTV’ as an SMS to 55447 and following the prompts. The BSNL has also introduced People Finder Service (PFS) for mobile users to locate, monitor and communicate with others. This service can be used over the Web, WAP or SMS. The BSNL will offer free insurance coverage for its landline subscribers. Broadband connections in Karnataka circle crossed two lakh during the past week.
