kitchens will be built at a cost of Rs.60,000 each

The work will be completed before March 30

JAIPUR: Kitchen-cum-storehouses are proposed to be constructed at 2,278 Government schools in Rajasthan this year to provide mid-day meals of good quality on time to schoolchildren. The kitchens will be built at a cost of Rs.60,000 each.

State Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Kalulal Gujjar said here on Monday that the construction would be completed before the end of the financial year 2007-08. All formalities such as selection of schools and release of money will be carried out this week to facilitate the completion of work before March 30.

Mr. Gujjar said the labour and material components in the construction work had not been fixed to enable the executing agencies to dovetail it with any other ongoing scheme.

“The grant of Rs.60,000 for each kitchen-cum-store will be considered as fully utilised only on the completion of construction. If an additional amount of money is required, the executing agency will arrange it from some other source,” said Mr. Gujjar.

The Minister said the State Government had sanctioned Rs.13.66 crore for construction of kitchens and would release it shortly. While the village panchayats concerned will carry out construction in the rural areas, the local bodies will perform the task in the cities.

The executing agencies will submit the progress report on construction along with the regular monthly reports on the mid-day meal programme. Mr. Gujjar said the kitchens would be built at a suitable place in the school buildings while ensuring that cooking activities do not disturb teaching and academic work in classes. Mr. Gujjar said the money sanctioned and targets set for a district would be allotted to other districts on its failure to begin the work by March this year.
