Patronise handicraft, says Collector

THANJAVUR: District Collector C. Vijayaraj Kumar has appealed to people to patronise handicraft.
He inaugurated a craft bazaar at Poompuhar showroom here on Monday.
He told presspersons that by patronising handicrafts, people help the art to flourish and the artisans to eke out a livelihood.
Handicrafts are available at affordable prices but there is a notion that that they are quite expensive.
Besides ornamental ones, articles of utility are also available in handicrafts now, he said.
Mr. Vijayaraj Kumar said that the craft bazaar organised by Poompuhar provided an opportunity to purchase handicrafts from other States.
From other States
Poompuhar regional manager R. Kalaimani said that handicrafts from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kashmir, Rajasthan, Punjab, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh are on display at the craft bazaar.
Thanjavur paintings and art plates are also on display at the exhibition. The exhibition will last till February 12, including Sundays.
The timings are from 10 a.m.to 8 p.m. Ten per cent discount is given.
Credit cards will be accepted without service charge.
