Ananthamurthy criticises ‘insensitive’ media

Staff Correspondent

U.R. Ananthamurthy

MYSORE: Despite stiff opposition from supporters of the former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna to the release of “Halli Hakkiya Haadu”, an autobiography of the former Minister H. Vishwanath, Jnanpith recipient U.R. Ananthamurthy fulfilled his “responsibility” in his own style. Instead of releasing the book, he made a critical appreciation of it.

Appeal

Supporters of Mr. Krishna appealed to Mr. Ananthamurthy, when he entered the Rani Bahadur auditorium against releasing the book, as according to them the book allegedly contained derogatory remarks against the former Chief Minister. The former Union Minister V. Srinivasa Prasad pleaded with Mr. Ananthamurthy not to release the book formally, as he had assured the protestersthat it would not be done.

He also appealed to the organisers to hold the function at a later date.

However, responding to his appeal, Mr. Ananthamurthy said, “As I have already read the book, it has already been released in my mind.”

Criticising a particular channel, which telecast the reported derogatory remarks against Mr. Krishna, he said that the protesters should fight against increasing insensitivity in the media.

Taking a critical view of the autobiography, Mr. Ananthamurthy said that there was no need for Mr. Vishwanath to write about incidents that affected the persons involved in it.

“Electronic media will always sensitise such issues to increase their TRPs,” he added.
