G. Pollam Raju, one of the seven persons, who surrendered at Panjagutta Police Station in Hyderabad on Tuesday. HYDERABAD: Seven persons allegedly involved in the attack on actor Rajasekhar on Tuesday surrendered to the police who registered a case of attempt to murder, among other sections of law. As a result of police invoking Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code, the accused do not have a chance of securing bail immediately and would have to be sent to judicial remand. Punjagutta police refused to comment on the surrender but sources said they were being interrogated to ascertain the motive and persons who instigated them. Hunt is on for three more persons who masterminded the attack. Reacting to the surrender, Jeevitha, wife of Mr. Rajasekhar expressed happiness but said they would not be content till the main persons involved in the attack and the brain behind the incident is put behind the bars. The memory of the stones smashing the windshield and windows of their car and the attack that her husband had to bear, as also the injuries to their little children, were all too vivid even 36 hours after the incident, she said. Ms. Jeevitha was all praise for the police and expressed confidence that the others would be apprehended soon. The surrender of attackers was dramatic. Even before they walked into the police station along with their advocate, they gave interviews to local news channels on their version of the incident. They reportedly told the police that their aim was not to attack Mr. Rajasekhar but wanted to seek an apology from him for commenting on the entry of film star Chiranjeevi into politics. They confessed to have attacked the actor’s car near Punjagutta junction. “But we only broke the side windowpane. They’re accusing us of completely damaging the rear windshield,” they maintained. According to them, the actor panicked and rammed two oncoming vehicles leading to damage of his car. Punjagutta police are examining footage of the attack telecast by news channels to reconstruct the sequence of events. Among the surrendered youths, Ganesh and G. Pallam Raju hail from Amalapuram and claim they are into real estate business. They and the other youths, Satish, Kalyan, Shaik Saleem, Vishnu and Rammohan, live in and around Kukatpally. Three more accused, R. Suri Babu, Y. Nagababu and Venu Naidu, are at large. Police seized the Innova vehicle that was used by the attackers. They are also searching for a second vehicle.
