Strong substitute
The outbreak of avian flu in West Bengal seems to have spelled bad news for the fast food outlets in the city too. As soon as the news broke, sale of chicken dishes, especially fried chicken, dropped drastically in all such outlets.
As most of the requirement for chicken in the city is met by Tamil Nadu, many feel that the inter-State trade in birds could open the door for the disease here too.
The smell of fried chicken from wayside food stalls no longer entices passers-by now, as many have decided to switch to the other staple, beef fry, according to a vendor.
