Removal of anomalies in provident fund scheme demanded Assured career progression for teachers, non-teaching staff sought PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry Government-Aided Private School Teachers and Employees Federation on Monday announced a three-pronged agitation to highlight their demands. They included removal of anomalies in the General Provident Fund scheme, a uniform pension scheme and assured career progression (ACP) for 1,700 teachers and non-teaching staff in the Union Territory. Honorary president of the Federation T.R. Seshachalam told reporters here that the teachers and non-teaching staff of the government-aided schools would stage a demonstration before a nationalised bank in Ambur Road on Wednesday. In the second phase, they would observe the Demands Day on February 6. In the third phase, they would stage a dharna in the Education Department complex on February 13. The Federation planned the stir in such a way that it did not affect the studies of students, he said. The teachers and the non-teaching staff would intensify the struggle if the government did not concede their demands. Though salary, service conditions, educational qualification and retirement benefits were common between personnel of government and aided schools in other States, it was not the case in Puducherry. The Education Minister announced in the Assembly nine months ago that the government would increase allocation to aided schools to 100 per cent, as in the case of Tamil Nadu.
