CHENGAM: Pudupalayam panchayat union is the first in Tiruvannamalai district to receive the ‘Best team work award’ for 2007-2008. The award has been given for timely execution and completion of development works under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam.

C. Sundarapandian, chairman of the Pudupalayam panchayat union, said that the block received the award from Collector Satyabrata Sahoo during the Republic Day celebrations held at Tiruvannamalai on Saturday. The award was given following a detailed review of various schemes by Additional Collector Anu George. The Puduplayam panchayat union team maintained a detailed report of the completed schemes.

The chairman said that the review of the schemes, undertaken at various panchayat unions, was done during a review meeting headed by Food Minister E.V. Velu.

The progress was reviewed for all 18 panchayat unions in the district. Though it took four to five hours to review the work in all panchayat unions, the Pudupalayam union was an exception as the review was over in an hour.

The Minister commended the good work done by the panchayat union and the chairmen of the remaining panchayat unions were requested to speed up the work.

Mr. Sundarapandian said that the panchayat union chairman awards were given to Arulmani, BDO (block panchayat), M. Annamalai, BDO (village panchayat), and M. Subramanian, Engineer of the panchayat union, who had now been transferred.

According to the officials, the scheme had been implemented in seven panchayats coming under the union for 2006-2007. Similarly, another seven panchayats had been included under the scheme for 2007-2008. There were a total of 37 panchayats attached to the union. The deadline for completion of work was March 2008. But, the works in all the 14 panchayats were completed by December 2007.
