PUDUCHERRY: Secretary of the Puducherry unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhgam A. Anbalagan has said that the government medical college project here was “unnecessarily dragged into a controversy owing to infighting in the Cabinet.” Speaking to reporters here, he said that though the AIADMK was not in favour of the government spending “a huge amount” on the medical college, the project should be taken up in “right earnest.” The government should have used the facilities at the General Hospital to get the approval of the Medical Council of India to start the college instead of constructing a new hospital. On the controversy over the project cost, a probe should be ordered to find out whether there were any irregularities.
