CHANDIGARH: As part of the process of monitoring ongoing development projects, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator S. F. Rodrigues on Tuesday inspected the progress of work at the Entrepreneur Development Centre (EDC) at Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Information Technology Park, Medicity site, OPD Block in Sector 16 General Hospital, New Block in Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 and the Nehru Centre for Performing Arts. Accompanied by Home Secretary Krishna Mohan, Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner R. K. Rao and other senior officers of the Engineering and Architecture Departments, Gen Rodrigues took stock of the development of different components of the projects, discussed every detail of the facilities and also the problem areas of individual projects. Setting deadlines for commissioning of all the projects, he directed the executive agencies to speed up the construction work. He directed that the Entrepreneur Development Centre, scheduled to be commissioned by the end of December this year, must be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for software research and development. It must also provide incubation facilities for young IT entrepreneurs. During his visit to the construction site of OPD Block in Sector 16 of Chandigarh and New Block of Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, Gen Rodrigues asked the heads of these institutions to prioritise construction and plan for restructuring the facilities with focus on meeting the futuristic medical needs for the next two decades. He also asked them to lay special emphasis on the training of nurses. The Governor asked the officers to plan all future projects with multi-storeyed building concept and underground parking.
