Councillors’ protest

PUDUCHERRY: Councillors of the Puducherry Municipality have opposed the move to entrust the task of supervising round-the-clock garbage collection in 42 wards in the town to ex-servicemen.

Councillors irrespective of party affiliation on Monday night staged a protest inside the cabin of Puducherry Municipality Commissioner N. Sumathi.

When they came to know that the Commissioner had convened a meeting of the ex-servicemen at her office on Monday night to brief them about their job, the ward members assembled on the Municipal office premises and lodged a protest to her.
