BELLARY: “Samudayadatta Shale,” a programme envisaged to encourage school education, solicit the people’s views on methods to improve educational standards and reduce drop outs, has not worked well in Bellary taluk. As per the programme, each school had been assigned a lecturer, who had to evaluate the performance of students, teaching standards and suggest steps for improvement. A team of presspersons, who visited several government high schools in the taluk, including Korlagundi, Talur, Hire Hadligi, Basarkod and Moka Girls High School in Bellary city, found that the lecturers had not turned up except in Talur. Enquiries revealed that after the principals informed the officers in the Education Department of their continual absence, instructions had been issued directing school staff to conduct the evaluation process and present results to the parents. The principals said that they had invited the parents to participate in the interactive session at 3.00 p.m. on Tuesday. However, in Moka, very few parents, along with the president of the grama panchayat, chairman of the School Development Management Committee and two other elected representatives participated. President of the Bellary Zilla Panchayat Pushparekha, expressed dissatisfaction over the unclean surroundings and the failure of the staff to ensure attendance of parents On Thursday, evaluation of students’ performance at the primary school level will be taken up.
