Rich tributes to Gopi

Funeral with State honours at Thycaud today

Last respects: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan paying homage to Gopi who died in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. -

Thiruvananthapuram: Rich tributes were paid to actor Gopi who died here on Tuesday.

Governor R.L. Bhatia described him as a seasoned actor who graduated from theatre to the tinsel world and enlivened many a film role by his flawless emoting.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan described Gopi as a talent without equal in the Malayalam film field who succeeded in occupying a permanent place in the mind of viewers through excellent acting in Kodiyettam, Yavanika and many other films.

Defence Minister A.K. Antony said that he had made many characters immortal through his style of acting which was a combination of naturalism and realism.

Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy described him as an actor who attained immortality through the unforgettable characters he had given life to.

Gopi will be given a funeral with police honours at Thycaud here at 4.30 p.m. tomorrow. His body will be placed at the VJT Hall from 2 p.m. for the public to pay homage.
