Actor Gopi dead

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Renowned actor and winner of the national award for best actor Gopi died here on Tuesday. He was 71.

Gopi who had done impressive roles both on the celluloid and on the stage had won several awards at the national and State levels, besides some international recognitions. He was awarded Padma Shri in 1991.

Some of his well-acclaimed films include Kodiyettam, Yavanika, Kallan Pavithran, Ormakkayi, Chidambaram, Alolam and Panchavadippalam. He had also acted in Hindi films Aaghat and Satah se Udtha Aadmi. He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter. The last rites will be performed with full-state honours here on Wednesday.
