Haryana plans new varsities

CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said on Tuesday that his government was planning to set up a Central university, a medical university at Rohtak and a defence university to provide professional education of world standards.
Addressing the silver jubilee function of Hindu Girls’ College at Sonepat, Mr. Hooda said that his government had set up a university for women at Khanpur Kalan and a science and technology university at Murthal.
Seats reserved
Also, the Rajiv Gandhi Education City was being set up to provide world-standard education and 25 per cent of the seats in the City would be reserved for students of Haryana and out of these five per cent would be on full fee concession and 10 per cent each on 50 and 25 per cent fee concession, respectively.
He claimed that Haryana had taken the initiative to introduce the semester system in schools and EDUSAT network in the country. All the government schools, colleges and technical institutes were being connected to EDUSAT and “it would be the biggest network in Asia .”
