AIADMK seeks subway

VIRUDHUNAGAR: The All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has urged Southern Railway General Manager Rakesh Chopra to construct a subway at the railway crossing in the Virudhunagar-Maniyachi section at Ramamoorthy Road here.

In a memorandum submitted to him, AIADMK’s town secretary S. Ashokan said that over 30 passenger and goods trains were running on the section and the railway gate was closed as many times every day.

This caused lot of inconvenience to the local people. Since the Government hospital was located on this road, on many occasions patients requiring urgent medical treatment were held up at the railway gate.

Besides, the gate that often went out of order forced people to take a circuitous route of 4 km.

The railway should implement the long pending demand of the people by constructing a subway in order to ease the inconvenience, the memorandum said.
