Total MoU goes up to 49 State claims that 20 projects start production BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa government on Tuesday signed three Memoranda of Understanding with different private companies to set up steel plants in the State. The number of MoUs for steel plants rose to 49 with the signing of the three MoUs at the State Secretariat here. Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy presided over the MoU signing ceremony. The companies that signed the MoUs with the government are Pradhan Steel and Power Private Limited, Atha Mines Private Limited and Tecton Ispat Private Limited. Pradhan Steel proposes to set up a 0.50 tonnes of steel per annum capacity with an investment of Rs. 606 crores at Dhurusia in Cuttack district, while Atha Mines will set up a 0.25 capacity unit with an investment of Rs. 291.60 crores at Tarkabeda in Dhenkanal district. Tecton Ispat will set up a 0.25 capacity steel mill at an investment of Rs. 227.13 crores at Tarkabeda in Dhenkanal. Total investmentThe 49 MoUs signed with different private companies envisages production of 75.66 tonnes of steel per annum at a total investment of around Rs. 2,00,000 crores. Although none of the big projects have taken off the ground so far, the State government has claimed that more than 20 of the projects have started production.
