Develop insight in children: official

CHIKMAGALUR: K.V.R. Tagore, Commissioner for the Information Department, said here on Monday that children should be taught the importance of human values in addition to their curriculum.

Inaugurating the students union at the MLMN College of Education, Mr. Tagore stressed the need to develop insight in children.

He called upon teachers to build up vast knowledge in themselves which they could impart to their students.

Respect

Pointing out that teachers were respected in society because only they had the power to improve values in life, he said teachers should also develop the individual talent present in each child.

Advising students not to lose their enthusiasm, he said they should learn to question issues in their textbooks and contemplate on important matters.

He said the relationship between the teacher and students should be like that of a family.

C.M.S. Shastry, president of Malnad Education Society (MES), presided over the function. N.M. Gayatri Rao, headmistress of Mountain View School, honoured merited students of last years’ B.Ed. examination.

D.K. Udayshankar, vice-chairman of the Coffee Board, and D.L. Vijay Kumar, honorary secretary of MES, spoke. H.S. Shanthaveerappa, principal of MLMN College of Education, welcomed.

Vasudev, secretary of the students union, read out a report. K.M. Madhu Kumar proposed a vote of thanks.
