DDA reply sought on Games Village flats

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday sought a reply from the Delhi Development Authority on media reports about it making public its proposal for construction and sale of flats to be built in the Commonwealth Games Village in East Delhi to accommodate players coming to take part in the Games in 2010.

The DDA has planned to build a residential complex of 1,160 flats in the Games Village near the Akshardham Temple on the Yamuna riverbed.

A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice A. K. Sikri and Justice Rekha Sharma sought the reply from the DDA when a public interest litigant drew its attention to reports published this past Monday.

The petitioner had challenged proposals to raise concrete structures on the riverbed, including the Games Village, on the ground that it would hinder groundwater recharge and environment regeneration.
